My childhood in the Netherlands
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek! Baby piccies!
Strictly for the real diehard Marijke fans <g>

This is the photograph the existence of which i've been teased with a lot... "No, press, no pictures!"
Now it got unearthed again, i scanned it.

Blissfully happy in my grandma's garden in Duerswâld.

Looks like i was a jailbird already at a very tender age... but at least i had the opportunity to learn math while inside!

I was born on 1 November 1955 in Harns / Harlingen (to give it its Frisian and Dutch names), a small harbour town where the ferries leave for the Wadden Islands. The next couple of photos are situated in this town.

One of the very few photos with all four of us: holding my buggy is my sister Tineke, next to her my brothers Thijs (the oldest) and Theun. My siblings are all half-sister and -brothers from previous marriages, and we didn't all live together: Tineke was with her mum and Thijs was learning to be a sailor. And yes, that's a bit of snow.

I'm on the scooter in front, my brother Theun is behind me. We don't know who the kid behind the hedge is.

1962, by now i'm six.
Here i'm fascinated by our
regular feathered visitor.

When i was 8, we moved from the bilingual Fryslân / Friesland (in the North of the Netherlands) to a town near Amsterdam in Holland (the Western part of the Netherlands).

1968 (so i was 12): with my mother, at the Paßhöhe of the old St. Gotthard. They used to take us on camping holidays abroad, first with a tent, later a touring caravan.

  A whistful picture
  from my late teens.

The occasion is my father's anniversary of 40 years as a civil servant. I'm in the left of the picture, in the blue dress.
In my early twenties here. My dad is not in the picture, we're busy applauding him.

Later pictures: my London years
and time on the Isle of Coll.
Last but not least, feline friends
